PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE
- Someone will call and confirm your appointment and answer any questions you may have regarding your procedure or your prep.
- For a Colonoscopy: You will receive instructions for a bowel cleansing prep to take prior to your procedure. You may have clear liquids ONLY the day prior to the procedure. If your procedure is scheduled later in the afternoon you may stay on clear liquids up to 6 hours prior to your scheduled time.
- For a Gastroscope: Nothing by mouth after midnight.
- Make Arrangements to have a responsible adult to drive you home You may NOT leave in a cab and you cannot drive the remainder of the day after your procedure.
- Co-pays, deductibles and co-insurance payments are due to the physician’s office 7 days prior to coming to the EndoCenter for your procedure.
AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE
- You will be sedated for your procedure and may not remember speaking with your physician after the procedure. With your permission, the physician will speak with your family member regarding your results.
- If the physician obtained any biopsies or removed any polyps for pathology, these results will be available in 7-14 day.
- You may receive charges from the Pathologists if biopsies are taken.
- You will receive written instructions following your procedure.
- Rest and relax after your procedure. Do not drive or operate any heavy equipment.
- The day after your procedure, someone will call to check on you and answer any questions you may have.
THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE
- Do not eat or drink anything the day of your procedure except heart, blood pressure, or seizure medicines with a small sip of water.
- Do not wear jewelry or bring any valuables with you.
- Do bring your designated driver to sign you out and drive you home.
- Do bring a list of your medications including dosages.
- Do wear loose comfortable clothing with a short sleeve shirt.
- Do bring a pair of socks to keep your feet warm.
- Do limit the number of family members/friends that come with you. Space is limited.
- If you are a female patient of child bearing age with no history of a hysterectomy, you will be required to take a pregnancy test.
