Colonoscopy - Colon Cancer Screening

Colonoscopy is a special exam of your lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract. If you are having symptoms of a lower GI problem this procedure may be done to get a better look of your lower gastrointestinal tract. During the procedure a long narrow flexible tube is used that contains a video camera. Your GI tract can then be viewed on a video screen. During the procedure you will be given a sedating medication through an IV (intravenous) line.

EGD - Upper GI Endoscopy

Upper GI Endoscopy is a special exam of your upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. If you are having symptoms of an upper GI problem, this procedure may be done to find the cause.  During the Endoscopy a long narrow flexible tube called an endoscope is used. This instrument contains a strong light and a video camera. It shows images of your GI tract on a video screen. During the procedure your throat may be numbed with a spray, and you are given a sedating medication through an IV (intravenous) line.

Flex Sigmoidoscopy

A flexible sigmoidoscopy is an examination of the lower part of the gastrointestinal tract, called the colon or large intestine. It is performed by an endoscopist, who is a doctor or other health professional with special training in endoscopic procedures. There are several reasons that flexible sigmoidoscopy may be recommended, with one of the most common reason being the need to screen for colon cancer in people older than 50 years.
